We spent two nights at Hotel Greif on our third visit to Bolzano. The hotel is very quiet and our room was on the first floor overlooking Walther Platz. Breakfast was varied and plentiful and the staff went out of their way to accommodate our gluten free needs (coeliacs). The next time we're in Bolzano, Hotel Greif will definitely be our choice for accommodation.

Location was perfect, pool and park at Parkhotel Laurin was very close and a wonderful escape from the heat. We spent a whole afternoon relaxing there with books and a spritz! The robes, pool towels and tote bag were a thoughtful touch. Breakfast buffet and service were 5 stars. Two small areas for improvement: 1) a pillow menu was offered which was a very fun idea but none of the pillows were actually available, 2) it was very hot when were in Bolzano. The AC was limited to 20C which was fine but with the thick blanket provided it was still quite hot for sleeping. A sheet or light blanket would have been better.

My second time staying here, and it was a huge disappointment. Of course the location is fantastic, and the hotel at first glance has a nice appearance, but I was very uncomfortable staying here. The first room they gave me was next to their rooftop bar which blasted music starting early evening and until 11PM. So I moved rooms, but unfortunately I was put in the townhouse style room where the beds are up a flight of stairs and located in a cubby/attic without air conditioning. The air conditioning controls were there, but only the fan worked. I complained to the front desk, but they just made excuses - said that the Italian government doesn't allow them to use air conditioning until it gets very hot. There is one window in the attic/cubby and when it was open, I could get fresh air, but if there is even the slightest drizzle of rain, then the window automatically closes, which left me feel like I was suffocating up there. So every 30-60 mins I would get up, try to open the window, just to have it automatically close after I would get back in bed. So if you stay here, I would only recommend the winter months and avoid any room by the rooftop bar.
