Service, decor mixing old and new and location are unbeatable. My only complaint is that the walls are a bit thin. That aside, I would definitely come back here. The staff are so nice! Like everyone in Taiwan. If you’re going in winter, be sure to bring fluffy socks and winter pajamas as there is no heating anywhere (apparently it’s the same for the rest of Taiwan). We were freezing terribly the first night (not the hotels fault obviously) but got an extra blanket on the second night upon request which helped a lot. Breakfast at the hotel really is good if you fancy a continental breakfast, but I would still recommend eating out at one of the many eateries nearby if you’re more interested in an authentic foodie experience. Any place in the area is delicious and there are a number specialising in proper Taiwanese breakfast.

-Location of hotel is great, nearby all the shops. -Hotel decorations are nice -Hotel is more like for young people type, but not elderly friendly. -Hotel below got a bar. -Hotel got washing machines and dryers, but one of the dryer is not working and wasted my money and time. -WiFi is free BUT not working, either cannot connect at all or very poor connection. -The rooms in the hotel is like a maze... -No view at all... -The hotel food is good.

Hotel's location is oki- easy walk down the crowded street, perhaps this is the only thing I like about it itself. All the rooms are small and my first room had 2 dirty pillowcases and the atmostphere is terrible. I had to requested change my room. My Family said that this hotel like a prison with its winding entrance and tiny room

- Very unprofessional staff: Our room smells bad (probably because they didn’t pour water to keep the drain clean regularly). We asked a passing by staff member for help, and got an answer “so what?”. That’s truly ridiculous. The staff said he was taking a break but when we went to the reception for help 5 minutes later, we saw him working there. Unbelievable. - Faulty room: Our room either had a sewage smell (which disappeared after we poured some water into the drains), or had some faulty parts (including but not limited to faulty door security lock, toilet seat and door not holding still The experience was disappointing. Hotel Papa Whale had been my goto hotel in Taipei for a long time before this stay because of its convenient location and friendly staff, and I always had a good experience here. I will not choose Papa Whale anymore in the future. There are better hotels in their Ximending area. Update: We talked to a female supervisor about the problems and she was willing to help us solve the problems immediately. She also showed her empathy towards our experience. I have therefore changed the service rating from 1 star to 4 stars for her exceptional service.
