I had a truly restful and relaxing stay at the Perle d'Orient. My room was very comfortable and well-appointed, and the bed in particular was very comfortable. The view from my balcony of the bay coupled with the quiet was exactly what I was looking for. I used the spa a few times, and the massages were perfect, and helped dispel a lot of accumulated work stress. The staff were helpful, but it would have been easier to be able to communicate more easily - many staff members could only speak Vietnamese with comfort and were out of their depth with English. That is perfectly understandable in Vietnam - but this is an international hotel so a level of fluency in English seems reasonable to expect.

The hotel was fantastic. Don’t think you can beat the views since it doesn’t matter what room you have, they all have ocean view. We went in the winter so the sun didn’t set right on the water, but it was still amazing to watch from the rooftop pool/bar. On the lower floor, you have the restaurant which has a great breakfast buffet with various western and Asian cuisine. The restaurant is great for dinner, though the prices will be much higher than going into town. I think the food was really good, but maybe slightly higher price for the quality. Below that floor you have the gym, a game room with pool table, air hockey (needs to be replaced, puck is destroyed same with the table with some scratches), and ping pong. We don’t have kids, but seemed to have a great play area for them as well. The location is amazing since you get the ocean views and right next to probably the best beach in the whole island. Though you will have to take a little walk to get into town, about 10 minutes. So not horrible but something to keep in mind if you want to go out. My only small complain, but also it’s because of the time of the year, is to heat up a bit more the pools. At least one of them since it was way too cold to enjoy during the winter months. This is not just us, everyone we saw go in, came right out. But again, small change and not enough to take away the 5 star review!

An incredible hotel in a perfect location, overlooking the bay and the beautiful golden sand beach. Stunning interiors throughout. Our room was so plush and comfortable with a lovely balcony, providing breathtaking views. The staff are exception. Highly recommended.

Regarding the restaurant only: we had a strange experience here. At the beginning, everything was great (especially the service), we inquired about vegan options which to our delight they had a dedicated menu section for. The food came and was pretty good, however, after we ate they somehow forgot about us? We were sitting outside and no waiters tended to us anymore. We waited for 20-30 minutes but nobody ever came to pick up the plates we used and we couldn’t order more (we were hoping for dessert & coffee). So we had to walk up to some counter to pay. The staff didn’t seem to care much after we told them that we felt a bit neglected - a further blow to our experience there.

Cannot believe how fantastic our stay was on Cat Ba Island. Utterly breathtaking location and views from the rooms, sincere staff who helped us at every point, and cannot believe how fantastic the facilities were. Our Halong Bay cruise was cancelled so we used the money and time to stay here instead - and we ended up being happy the cruise was cancelled! So much more luxurious and relaxing with just as fantastic views and far more freedom.
