Hotel Santa Lucia

A good location close to Plaza de Armas. Friendly and helpful staff, who assisted in booking a taxi and getting a food pack replacing breakfast at our early departure.

Decent place for the price. Not spotless, but clean enough. Entrance in a sort of mall hall way and an elevator off that hallway to the 4th floor lobby. Never entered a hotel this way so that was interesting but pretty common for the area. The front desk staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. Possibly sketchy area at night, but during the day the entrance hallway opens up onto a positively alive market scene with hundreds of people in a full street market that blanketed the area. Cant beat the location, being only a couple blocks away from Plaza de Armas and Cerro (Hill) de Santa Lucia (which has a storied history and still has castle/fortress buildings peppering the grounds) I personally love climbing the Incan like hewn rocks steps found all over. The hotel entrance is only steps away from one of the main market walking streets. A fruit vendor helped me get my payment right when I tried to pay him too much (ie. 10x when I wasn't moving the decimal place far enough in currency conversions) The vendors we dealt with were all friendly and helpful. Most speak a bit of English and we speak a bit of Spanish so we were able to get along quite well with all. Some kiosks even accept smart phone wallet tap for payment. Secure and easy. Edit: after perusing some other reviews, I should also mention that we had a room facing the street and it was quite noisy. Some early morning yelled conversations (arguments?), dog barking, a bit of traffic (although the street is designated for mostly pedestrian traffic/marketplace). For our family from a residential neighborhood in a small city this added to our experience (my kids love the vibrancy and we aren't too light of sleepers) but for someone just looking for shut eye it could likely be too noisy.
