We spent two nights here in a well appointed room with one of the best showers ever! It is easy to get to from the station using public transport and is central to museums, tours and shopping district. The breakfast was generous, with lots of choice and was fresh. The bread was especially good. The bar is an honesty bar with a limited selection but there are plenty of places close by. The staff were friendly and helpful though they are not there 24hours. We hope to visit again. Two nights was not long enough!

Our stay at Hotel van de Vijsel was absolutely fantastic! The rooms were beautifully decorated and exuded a modern atmosphere. The cleanliness throughout the hotel deserves special praise. The hotel's location was perfect for us, as it was just a short walk from the city center. This made it easy for us to explore Amsterdam's attractions. Moreover, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They provided us with excellent tips and made sure we felt completely comfortable. Overall, we highly recommend it and will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Amsterdam!

Room was too dark, cramped and felt claustrophobic. Don’t even have space to unpack your suitcase or a closet to properly hang your clothes. The only good thing is that the bathroom floor is heated.

Echoing what others have said — the room is like a cave, extremely dark and cramped. We tried to plug in a cord and our room lights went out and the front desk (albeit they were helpful) seemed like this happened on the regular and knew what to do immediately. The electricity in this building is definitely weird. The worst part of the stay is the lounge/cafe — I really liked it in the beginning as I could work and watch tv while roommate was sleeping, but the front desk staff acted like I shouldn’t be there and kept peering in through the night. Eventually, they kicked me out and told me the cafe closes at 10/11pm, which is ridiculous. If you’re jet lagged / want to enjoy drinks, you can’t stay in the lounge and have to be confined in your tiny room.
