The rating is based on a five star hotel standard. We’ve been to many nice hotels including a lot of intercontinental hotels, this one is not up to some other hotels’ level. First the TV apps like Netflix and YouTube did not work, we called the room service and they asked us to wait till the next morning instead of sending someone to check it out. (There was a power outage that night that we were noticed already, but the TV apps stopped working way before the outage, like 10 hours before) We waited till the next morning and it still didn’t work but we didn’t bother to call again. Second, the perfume in the hallway is too strong, and definitely not some high quality ones. Made us sneeze and cough a lot. Third, there was someone drilling/hammering next door in the morning for a few hours, sounds like some interior decoration works going on, quite loud. Fourth, you can actually see the Tokyo tower from the room which is nice, but there’s also an apartment building next to the hotel, you can easily see people inside and be seen. Fifth, breakfast is not impressive at all. Some pros are: location is perfect, right next to U.S. Embassy and easy access to subway. Rooms are renovated, small but enough for a few night stay. Staff speak good English and seemed like most customers are from English speaking countries. Late check out can be 4pm because of our membership status. Rooms are clean, definitely meets the highest standard.

I’ve stayed in many intercontinentals (Bali, Miami, Chicago, Sydney, Melbourne, Boston, Budapest, and more). Based on room alone, this is the worst of them. I was very surprised to see how basic and simple and outdated my room was. Additionally, I would have expected a much nicer toilet. Their toilets have the attached bidet that doesn’t work too tell and doesn’t have a dryer or anything. The lobby and “feel” of the hotel outside of the rooms is extremely nice - but the hotel fails where it matters. Most of my time is spent in my room. This is the worst intercontinental I’ve stayed in based on that alone. Very surprising for what you’d expect in Tokyo. Additionally, my friend booked the room on his employee rate as an owner and platinum status, yet the staff would not accommodate a complimentary upgrade at check in, citing that the room was purchased at a discounted rate. All in all, I would have rather stayed at the Kimpton or Indigo over this property for the 1. Location and 2. More updated rooms.

We enjoyed our stay very much! Our first time to Japan and we felt so welcomed amongst the staff. Also a plus was opening our drapes to a view of Tokyo Tower! Our room was beautiful, clean and updated. We enjoyed the breakfast and dinner buffets as well as the coffee shop. The fitness center was nice and well equipped . The entrance to the train station was also very convenient. The concierge was so helpful for any questions we had. The perfect location and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

When I first arrived, I was told by the excellent front desk staff that the rooms are going to be renovated soon so I was a little mentally prepared for the condition of the room. Upon entering the room and looking around, I was a little disappointed. This was our 3rd hotel during our visit to Tokyo. My wife had mentioned to me that this was the worst hotel room we experienced in Tokyo so far. The next morning we went to get breakfast and was pleasantly surprised by the huge spread and the excellent restaurant staff. Koichi was extremely prompt to pickup our dirty dishes. As I was observing this extremely efficient and friendly staff, I see a gentleman in a suite walking around and acknowledging the guests. What blew me away was how this gentleman, Julian, jumped in to help his team by picking up the dirty dishes. This is a trait of a great manager and he is a great asset to this hotel. I run a boutique hotel and he exemplifies the traits of a great manager. I only gave 5 stars because of the staff and Julian's behavior.
