The place is a bit hard to find because it is located inside a small alley. We booked for 2 nights here in early December 2023 and got a KIYOHIRA room,once enter the room, it was over our expectation the room itself remains a Japanese style with great facilities like temp. control system (even the Tatami) We were so delighted that we don't want to leave the room. the bathroom here also have a temp. control not just water but the floor too. Great place to stay if you need "Peace in Japanese vibe" PS: The staff name "Shin" is cute. NiJz

A great traditional Japanese ryokan with a touch of modern western hotel. We booked the room on the first floor that with futons. Super big room, we have two biggest size suitcases and still got a lot of room to roam around. The bathroom is equipped with an automatic toilet and hot tub - with one single button the tub will fill and maintain the configured temperature. The staffs are friendly and understand multiple languages. The location is also perfect - 5 min walk to Gion and 10 min to Ninenzaka. So you have a choice to explore these two places in early morning to avoid the crowd and also exploring at night to get a super unique feeling. Not to mention the bus station and convenience store is just 2 block away on the main road. We booked breakfast on our last day and it was served in our room. With the view to the small inner garden and a full set of Japanese style meal that concludes our trip to Kyoto this time with very high satisfaction.

If you have the opportunity to stay here you will not be disappointed! We unfortunately were only able to stay 1 night in the Haganami room. It is the tradition Ryokan way to stay. Had we known how perfect this place was we would have planned on staying here for our entire stay in Kyoto! First and foremost the place has an incredible zen like feel to it. It is EXTREMELY clean and tidy. But what makes this the best place to stay in Kyoto is the staff! Sae took amazing care of us while we were here. She walked us through everything and went above and beyond for us. She even thought us how to make oragami cranes! She knows English very well and can have a wonderful conversation. I have never been treated this well at any hotel in my 15 years of traveling. What a wonderful place! I can’t wait to come back with more family and friends to have them experience the same!

Staying at Ishibekoji MUAN was an experience that left us wishing we had booked more nights at this remarkable Ryokan in the Gion district. The rooms perfectly embodied our expectations, blending traditional elements seamlessly while maintaining impeccable cleanliness and an aura of genuine comfort. An oversight on our part was the realization that a kaiseki dinner was not included which was something we really wanted to do. However, the staff, who were both friendly and attentive, went above and beyond, assisting us in finding the right dining spot. One of the highlights of our stay was the exploration of Gion at night once most of the rest of the tourists have left. With Yasaka Shrine just a short five-minute stroll away, waling around the template of night is when the lanterns lining the paths come to life, creating a breathtakingly picturesque scene—a moment we captured in one of the most memorable photos of our time in Kyoto. If you are thinking of staying here just for a couple of nights, reconsider adding a few more as you will wish you had.
