Mondrian Mexico City Condesa

The Mondrian hotel is the best hotel I’ve ever stayed - and I’ve stayed at a lot of great hotels. The staff go out of their way to make your stay worth and memorable. Mariel, the concierge, was awesome and helped us plan our activities for our stay. She’s the best!! The breakfast is delicious and well-prepared and presented. I recommend you get their breakfast during your stay. They have a beautiful courtyard restaurant and bar where you’ll want to spend some quality time with your group or by yourself. We found the Mondrian on travelzoo and couldn’t beat the value for a 5 star hotel.

I’d like to start by saying overall the room was nice- the employees who clean the rooms are impeccable and outstanding. However, I cannot say the same about the check in/ reception, and breakfast staff. My family and I don’t boast our wealth. We’re very humble in that sense. As we like to wear casual attire especially because we’re all city people and prefer comfort over fashion while walking and exploring Mexico City. Reception/check in and breakfast personnel especially stared us up and down and treated us mediocre because we wore casual attire. We noticeably were treated differently from people dressed in “nice clothing.” We did not show up wearing dirty clothing, sweats, or things of that nature. Just jeans a nice button down and sneakers. I mean it is 2023 quality and brands make casual attire… even when I wore a proper dress I was stared down at. A good example is when we were leaving the Mondrian hotel to go explore Mexican gastronomy one night and a check in lady stared at my brother down with an ugly expression on her face. The staff that serve breakfast and seat you at breakfast all have this same mindset as well. They all stand around in a little huddle and talk poorly of clients. Furthermore, It’s truly disappointing that the staff have this discriminatory mindset which is if you’re not openly wearing big name brands you’re not worthy of exceptional service. Management should train staff to respect all of their clients since we all paid to be there regardless of their appearance. This is truly disappointing and the Mondrian is not deserving of the title of 5 star hotel - it’s at most a 3 star hotel with beautiful architecture. The Holiday inn provides better customer service than this!
