Mvngata Beach Hotel

I stayed in a king room on the third floor that was spacious and had a beautiful ocean view and well stocked mini bar of soft drinks, juice, beer, wine, chips and candy and the resort actually brought macaroons to my room which was nice. However my phone didn’t work and was never repaired so I could not order room service. The lunch menu was definitely the best there and during my stay several popular menu items were not available, such as pizzas and empanadas at dinner and orange juice in the morning. The dinner menu selections that were available were quite heavy (steak, salmon wellington etc) and I felt they should have offered classic resort food such as hamburgers sandwiches wraps etc to the dinner menu. While there is a beautiful Infiniti pool on the roof, the beach was disappointing as sharp rocks cover the entire length of water in front of the hotel, leaving only small slivers of places to get in without rocks that would become crowded. Again the rocks are sharp. Getting in the ocean is pretty much impossible here but is good for sunbathing and having lunch on the beach. This resort would be ideal for people who choose to eat off site of the property and have a preference of the pool instead of the beach.

I loved it here! I’ve seen different reviews about the place and I kind of agree with all of them. This list contains my experience and my opinion on some of the reviews I read. 1- I was staying in a residence like 10mn by car and my friends and I were looking for a good spot to be at and have something to eat. MVNGATA IT IS located in Playa del Carmen, it simply is on the outskirts, and yes, if you would like to go somewhere else you’ll have to take a taxi or rent a car, because the place is next to the highway that you take to go to the Cancún airport. So, it was convenient for us but just because we were near there and had a car. 2- The views you get being in the rooftop are magnificent. So If you want good pictures, this is a good place. 3- The food it is good but the drinks can be expensive. 4- The service was really good as well. My friends and I got there a little late, around 4pm and we didn’t have to pay for a day pass, just our consume so that was very convenient. The place was almost empty so they let us use/ be in areas where it is guests only. 5- I have noticed that in most places in Playa, specially the ones in touristy spots, they do ask for a 20% fee. I think most of the time the service is that good and I would pay that 20% but let’s remember that it is not obligated to leave that percentage. In Mexico the least people leave is 10% and it remains being optional. 6- Xcalacoco beach (where MVNGATA is located) it is rocky. You would have to be in the beach area where it is enclosed with sand sacks and it is more pleasant to swim there. I personally don’t swim every time I go to the beach and have been enjoying a lot more laying on the sand, so the rocks were not a problem, but that is me. 7- I cannot say anything about the rooms or the services being a guest because I didn’t stay there. 8- The next day our friends and I return there to have lunch but because it was still early we were supposed to have bought the day pass, however the staff whom attended us a day before was nice enough to just let us consume, but we couldn’t make use of the pools or rooftop. In this occasion the other staff whom were there, were not as polite just because we didn’t pay for a day pass. But it is the rules so I understand. In conclusion: It all depends where you are planning to hang around. Is it where all the restaurants are so you can have options? Where most of the beach clubs are? Where the night clubs are? Where a beach more swimmable is? You don’t have car? Then rent an airbnb or stay in a hotel where the 5th avenue is and you will have all these amenities 5 mn far. If you want something less expensive, maybe rent a car and stay farther (but Playa is so small that it is not that far). If you don’t have a limited budget, want to relax and maybe just one time go to somewhere touristic, I think MVNGATA is a good place to stay. Ps: the most famous beach clubs are usually full and they have good ambience but if it is not what you’re looking for MVNGATA is a good option, even though they didn’t have a DJ lol.
