Naples is Not just pizza, mandolin, clichés and puff pastries which – let alone – are delicious. Naples is history, art and culture, too often hidden behind a prejudice, certainly not always unfounded, yet so binding. A heritage which, probably not many people know, surpasses other great cities of art, a megalopolis stratified by history, dominated, unfortunately not always very well, over the centuries by Greeks, Romans, Normans, Angevins, Arabs, Spaniards, a melting pot -pot of cultures which in its evolution has given unique works to the world and a philosophy of life, most often dictated by need, entirely Neapolitan. Try walking through the historic center, after having viewed the centuries-old Neapolitan nativity scene art of San Gregorio Armeno, cross the streets that connect the decumani, enter the small churches, perhaps externally in disrepair, or the old buildings that line the streets, you will discover masterpieces not even imagine. You might come across a (actually there are several) Caravaggio or sit in prayer in the places where St. Thomas Aquinas stood long before you, you might find yourself going underground up to thirty meters and walking under the Church of San Lorenzo Largest among the perfectly preserved market stalls of Greco-Roman Naples. Or through Underground Naples "drop" into the ancient tuff cisterns dug by the Greeks, retracing centuries of history, you could, by visiting a typical Neapolitan bass, find yourself in the Cavea of ​​the ancient Greek Theater perfectly incorporated into the nineteenth-century buildings... oh, yes, not here nothing is thrown away. You could admire sculptural works that would make Michelangelo envious, have you ever heard of the Veiled Christ of Sanmartino? You could discover the mysteries of the esoteric Naples of the 18th century, do you know Prince Raimondo di Sangro? Or perhaps enter a church, cross a small shabby door and find yourself, as if by magic, in the place where the first Christian martyrs of the religious struggles in the East were venerated complete with relics, miraculous altars, and paintings to make your head spin. And perhaps, if you are not too tired, take a look at the splendid 18th century Majolica Cloister and below (because in this city there is always a below that leads to something more ancient) at the excavations from the Greek era. If you have time, you could get lost in the museums (there are so many for all tastes and all eras) full of works of immeasurable value, I could mention, just for your pleasure, the National Archaeological Museum (if you are looking for the most important finds of Pompeii and Herculaneum this is the place for you) whose walls themselves have a really interesting history or that of Capodimonte or that of San Martino or in the castles, such as the Castel dell'Ovo or the Maschio Angioino or Palazzo Reale or in the Catacombs, there are many of them, a tangible sign of the close bond that has linked the city to the cult of the dead since time immemorial. All this seeing, doing, knowing (and believe me it doesn't end here at all) will certainly have left you tired and hungry. This is the time to treat yourself to a pizza, a bit of rest and a puff pastry with the inevitable final coffee... in a hot cup, obviously.
