Sakura Cross was in a fantastic location for our family. A nice walk along the river, multiple convenience stores and supermarket nearby, and a good central location to walk to either Kyoto Station (about 1.7km walk) or Nishiki Market. We were 2 adults, a toddler and a baby, and whilst the room was compact, it perfectly suited our needs. The staff were friendly and helpful. We would stay again :)

Really loved this hotel, have stayed in many in Japan and this was one of my favourites. I found the room and bathroom very spacious (comparatively), clean, loved the beds and the bedding was better than mine at home! We had a lovely corner room so it was amazingly bright and the light at sunset was beautiful. I didn’t mind the lack of staff on reception, when we needed someone they came as soon as I rang the bell so it wasn’t an issue at all. They also were kind enough to accept our luggage early despite it being against their policy. In the end we were able to just check in 30 mins early which was great :) Location was perfect, close to a subway and bus, easy to get everywhere we were visiting. Would definitely stay again!

The pros: The hotel is well situated 10 mins away by bus from Kyoto Station and the Nishiki market. The rooms are very spacious and clean, the beds are incredibly comfortable and the towels are the softest I have ever used. The staff is friendly and the check out is at a comfortable 11pm. The room prices are quite economic relative to the area as well, I paid around 100$/night. The cons: The rooms are only cleaned every 5-6 days, or by request with a 3.000 Yen Fee, and the towels changed every 3 days, so this hotel is not ideal for long stays, but perfect to spend a couple nights. They try to economize in services in order to offer more affordable rooms, which is not necessarely a bad thing, just something you need to be aware off. There is no luggage drop-off service, neither before check in nor check out. Finally, when I went to check out, the guy pointed me to give them a perfect review before he would complete the check out. While this hotel is quite good, this is probably the reason their score is *that* perfect on Google Maps. So don't be tricked.

Worst Hotel for me (as a tourist) at Japan. Because: 1. This place don’t have any workers in reception, and if you have check in problems, you must complain and wait (in my experience it takes around 1 hour) 2. There is no free water, microwave and luggage storage. 3. Because of no luggage storage, you can’t send or receive your suitcase. If you don’t know about this and already send from previous hotel, you will lose your 1 day holiday for waiting your suitcase to arrive. 4. Really bed safety because no one at lobby, and if you forgot to close your checkin process any people can easily access your room. 5. If you stay more then 1 night, you cannot ask to clean your room because there is no one. So this is my honest review, without 5 points above this hotel just average. And it is good to have technology but I still need worker in hotels. Thank you.

Comfortable beds, except they're on a platform and the mattresses kept sliding off the platform. Like most hotels, rooms are tight. Hard to open your luggage in the room. Hotel is an automated check in/out place. Staff are not available to help or service guests. Cleaning staff were very nice and the only people we saw until check out and they stand over your shoulder asking you to give them a 5;star review when nobody was around for check in and were late setting up tablets to check in with.
