For being one of the cheaper hotels in Helsinki this has excellent price-quality ratio. The room was nice, staff very friendly, and breakfast was good for the price. I had no issues and would stay again.

The hotel is located in a quiet neighbourhood with lots of bars and cafes and there are plenty of public transport options. The room was clean, but tiny and the shower was just bad design, as the holder for the shower head was in a niche, so you had to hold it the whole time in the anyway narrow cabin. The rooms are further poorly soundproofed, so I had to listen to my neighbours burping and talking. The breakfast is great though.

I give this hotel a total of three stars. Rooms are very nice. Comfy beds. Breakfast left me not wanting more. Location is lacking though. Nice place to sleep and have breakfast but if you plan to have other dinner than hamburgers (hesburger just next doors) you need either to cab or tram down town. I also find hotelroomdoors in general very annoying. Slamming shut making it impossible to fall asleep until all your room neighbours are in their rooms. Note this remark is more or less for all hotels. At Kallio though they've set the doors to max slam.

So you have heard of Kallio that has that Christiania style vibe and wanted to stay here, at the middle of the action? Or wanted to save some euros, like me? Well, this IS close to Kallio, albeit somewhat at the edge, but still at short walking distance to it all. And yes, there are more watering holes than a hippo could drink. Even saw beer for less than 4€! The hotel door is plain - walking in you would think you have arrived at 12 Grimmauld Place, remember Sirius Black’s family house from Harry Potter? No? Anyways… the entrance is not as unwelcoming as the staff, and I have earned level three goodness, so better treat me as the ambassador that I am! Again, I digress.. Grew to expect higher standard in Scandic hotels in Norway, so was a tad disappointed with this. Corridors look like East-German jail blocks and second floor is still half floor underground and windows give to the parking lot. Room is typical plain scandinavian style, bathroom etc, nothing special. Let’s hope the breakfast saves the day tomorrow. Wish me luck!
