The Beresford Hotel

Low expectations after reading the other reviews, but even these low expectations weren't met when I arrived in my hotel room. I booked this hotel for a couple of days childfree while my son was at his dads, then I read some of the reviews and panicked if I'm honest, but if that's you now, do not fear. Upon arrival in the foyer, I was pleasantly surprised to see it all looked quite nice, the communal areas have been refurbished nicely, and I was greeted by lovely staff (I'd read that the staff were lovely, and they really are!) Then I was given my key to room 107, on the first floor, and things went a little downhill because the room was really dark, with a small window covered with bird faeces, and the walls are stained with what I hope was oil or grease? The doors have been kicked in, I think. The bathroom was dated, and covered in a strange white substance. If anyone from the hotel reads this, I'm pretty sure the marks would come out with a bottle of "Elbow Grease" (yellow bottle from B&M or Home Bargains). The bed was lumpy, the room painted a really depressing grey colour. I sent a video to my mum and she insisted I went and spoke to reception, not to just accept it (I hate confrontation or complaining). I reluctantly approached reception, and they were great! Quickly changed my room, where I had a double with a sea view, a lovely light room, recently refurbished, gorgeous view of the beach. You have to leave your key at reception when you leave, but they're always at the desk, and so friendly, so it's not a problem at all. One of the ladies was so helpful with suggesting lovely walks (turn right out of the hotel, cross the road, and walk along towards Padstow, there are some lovely beaches along the way!) The maintenance man was great, friendly, professional (didn't get his name). The cleaning crew were fab too. Aside from the first room, I couldn't fault this hotel. I'd heard there is an eggy smell in the bathrooms, but I didn't experience that at all. The shower in my suite was fab, gel soap affixed to the wall, fluffy towels etc. Great location Amazing staff Good value for money (if you get an awful room upgraded to a refurbished room). The most mixed bag review ever, but this hotel has great potential to be amazing again. (I didn't eat at the hotel as I'd read some bad reviews about the food).

Lovely hotel with really friendly staff. Great location overlooking the beach just a short walk to get down to tolcarne beach. 10min walk to the centre.
