About Diu Airport

The Diu Airport (IATA: DIU) is a civilian aerodrome in the Union Territory of Daman and Diu. The airport is situated at a distance of just 5 km from the centre of Diu city. In 1954, the Diu Airport was established as a part of the Portuguese contingent. The Transportes AÈreos da Õndia Portuguesa (TAIP) initiated operations in Diu on 16 August 1955. Until December 1961, when the Indian Air Force bombarded the airport, it was connected to Daman, Goa, and Karachi. Presently, the airport serves Diu and adjacent areas of Gujarat, including Jafrabad and Veraval. It has a single domestic terminal handling about 100 passengers each during arrivals and departures. To ensure comfortable travel for the passengers, it offers a free baggage service, free trolleys, medical rooms, T.R. stalls, tourist information counters, STD/PCO/ISD, restaurants and cafes, snack bars, drinking water facilities, wheelchairs for the disabled and aged passengers, car rental services, and even cash machines and ATMs. The Diu Airport is well connected to the Diu city centre. About Diu

Diu, formerly known as Dio, is situated on an island in the Khambhat Gulf in the Arabian Sea. A town in the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, it is located slightly off the southern tip of the Kathiawar Peninsula in southwestern Gujarat. The island is around 3 km long and 11 km wide. The Diu town, occupied by the Portuguese in 1535, continued to be a Portuguese colony till 19th December 1961. Almost all kinds of festivals, such as Makar Sankranti, New Year, Holi, Diwali, Rakshabandhan, Eid, and Christmas, are celebrated in Diu with great pomp and show.
