Ahmedabad Airport, known as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport (SVPIA) (IATA: AMD), named after India’s first Deputy Prime Minister, is an international airport for Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in Hansol. The airport is 9 km from central Ahmedabad. SVPI Airport is also the busiest and the largest in Gujarat. In 2020-21, it was recorded as the seventh-busiest airport for passenger traffic in India. It is a focus city for domestic airlines such as Go First, IndiGo, and TruJet connected to many cities in India such as Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai and Bengaluru and international destinations such as Singapore, Adu Dhabi and New York, among others. Ahmedabad Airport is managed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Adani Ahmedabad International Airport Limited. Airports Council International declared Ahmedabad Airport the ‘most improved airport’ in the Asia-Pacific belt in 2017. Adalaj Stepwell

Kolhapur Airport or Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj (CRM) Airport (IATA: KLH) is a regional airport servicing Kolhapur, Maharashtra, with a single terminal for domestic flights. The Airports Authority of India has been in charge of the CRM Airport since 2013. The airport’s history can be traced back to 1939, when the Air Services of India began flying to Kolhapur. The King of Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj, officiated at the event and contributed significantly to its success. In 2019, Kolhapur Airport was renamed in his honour. Kolhapur Airport is in Ujalaiwadi, about 9 km from Kolhapur.

This airport is set to receive a makeover that will allow it to handle Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 planes. It will help reduce traffic congestion at Mumbai and Pune airports. An aircraft gasoline station has been installed, allowing planes to stop here for refuelling. The AAI also intends to park the aircraft overnight at the airport. Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Tirupati, Mumbai, and Jalgaon are the cities this domestic airport serves in Kolhapur. Alliance Air, IndiGo, and Trujet operate out of this airport. The CRM Airport received an improved IFR category licence in December 2021, allowing takeoffs even in low visibility and making travel safe.

Previously known as ‘Kuntal’, Kolhapur is a city on the banks of the Panchganga River in south Maharashtra. Tarabai established it in 1707. According to legend, Goddess Mahalakshmi defeated Kolhasur, a demon who, before dying, wished for his place of death to be named after him. As a result, it was renamed Kolhapur and not Kuntal.
