The Donna Camilla Savelli is a mixed bag. The positives- the building itself - It is simply beautiful. The common areas, hallways and garden are so elegant. The serving staff, cleaners, and Ian the bell boy were also lovely. The negatives- For a four star hotel our “Executive” room was somewhat disappointing. The soundproofing was very poor. We were woken between 5-6am every morning by delivery vehicles, laundry collection, glass collection etc. The bathroom was very outdated, no dressing gowns, no coffee machine, and (strangest of all) two paper cups (a china cup and saucer would have been nice). The buffet breakfast was extensive. A large choice of food. Unfortunately the bacon and sausages were very greasy though, and a $5 extra charge for an omelette rather unnecessary in a 4 star establishment. Also milk had to be requested which was also strange. Finally we found the reception staff to be polite, but a little cold and unwelcoming (sorry not being unkind but that was our impression). Overall we loved the hotel building and garden, but feel that the overall experience could have been better, especially given the premium price charged to stay there.

The Donna Camilla Savelli hotel is an amazing place. It is absolutely gorgeous inside. The hotel is tucked into the corner of Trastevere. The high walls around the entrance courtyard help to add to the seclusion and help to remind you this was once a convent. Once inside you are greeted with a surprising beauty. There is an inner courtyard were we took breakfast everyday. It was a very peaceful way to start the day. Our room was well decorated and the bed was amazingly comfortable. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. After the long days of sightseeing and eating the wonderful food we found in Trastevere, coming back to the Donna Camilla put us at ease and gave us a great rest, away from the noise and activity of Roma.

Initial contact before we arrived was to Mr & Mrs! Come off it in this day and age. I made comment of this when arriving with my male partner & reception chose to ignore it. We had always wanted to stay here & so we did to celebrate my partner’s 50th. We were offered a glass of bubbles each at the bar & the size of the drinks ensured we didn’t rack up a payment to any more. The highlight of course is the breakfast! We also enjoy a cuppa first thing in the morning in our room! And the ignoble act of drinking out of paper cups (hardly sustainable!) in a 4* hotel is contemptible sorry : totally unacceptable! And the horrid ‘milk’ designed as it said for coffee! Toiletries were good & the sleep quality : despite the all too obvious noise (I think in house too : we were in room 124). Sadly, some idiot had left the lock out going into the bathroom! I caught my arm on it (it was v sharp). Couldn’t stop the blood. I rang down to request a plaster (to save my white shirt ) A bag was immediately dispatched to our room, it had all manner of things in it & the tiniest of plasters ! I returned the bag to reception & said there were no appropriate plasters in there & they should check the bag contents. No comment as to how I injured myself! But, an assurance they would try to sort some plasters. We wanted to go and enjoy breakfast & off we went. The lass on reception kindly brought a couple of plasters to us. Still no interest as to how I injured myself! The WiFi we found to be poor & it kept logging out! On reflection, we felt we would have gotten better elsewhere at a more competitive price on balance: as lovely as the breakfast was. It is looking a little tired, bathrooms, cracks in walls…
