Unfortunately the one person room I booked was not up to basic standards. The bed was extremely saggy, therefor there’s no way to lay in the bed straight. I told the receptionist that I am a sports coach who is recovering from a back injury and that this type of bed makes the pain a lot worse. He told me he wasn’t able to help me at that point. The walls are also very thin and I could hear the neighbours talk and do other activities until 3am. I was told I’d have a balcony, but the whole balcony was occupied by a airconditioning unit. Everything about this hotel is old, there are holes in the towels and the beds obviously needed to be renewed years ago. The next day I got an upgrade from the room. In this room the shower was broken. When I opened the water, the water went everywhere and got a lot of my stuff wet. The receptionist was nice enough to put duct tape on the shower head as a short term solution and promised me that the shower would be fixed the next day. At this point I was very uncomfortable at the hotel, and very tired from being kept away by the neighbours so I decided to book another hotel for the last two nights. There was a promise made to contact me about a refund, but I wasn’t called by the staff. I called and send e-mails multiple times, but have been ignored ever since. The staff was friendly and the location was good, but everything else is absolutely terrible. It’s not worth it’s current rating.

El Hostall is a cozy, pleasant and quiet space to enjoy a few days in Madrid. It is strategically located in the tourist heart of the city, close to everything. The staff, very friendly people and willing to help and recommend. I enjoyed a lot!
