the best place i’ve ever stayed! we stayed for two nights. the employees are extremely hospitable and friendly. the food is amazing and the rooms are very spacious and comfortable. the onsen was amazing after a long trip. the view from the rooms is so beautiful too! would definitely stay again.

It's been almost a month since I visited Gen but that's irrelevant as my time here was unforgettable. My wife and I initially thought that the stay was a little expensive but we later found out that it's worth every penny. We informed the staff that it was our anniversary and the staff provided a small gift for us which was very kind. The room we stayed in was Kei and it was beautiful. The modern decor gave it a very inviting feeling. The open air bath was a little strange at first but to be able to enjoy the hot spring in an outdoor setting was very nice. It also felt very private. The window faces east so it was quite beautiful to wake up to the sun rising over the mountain. We easily enjoyed the sunrise while soaking in the onsen bath. I am a bit strange where I don't like to eat seafood. The staff at Gen was able to accommodate a special menu for me while my wife enjoyed the usual kaiseki dinner. I didn't expect much but chef Osamu Okawa delivered amazing dishes. I had an exceptional Kobe steak dish that felt unrivaled to any other I've had in my time in Japan. The public onsen in the basement was also very well kept. If you go late enough you can have the whole place, along with the sauna, to yourself. I highly recommend staying at Gen and would not hesitate to go there if i return to Hakone.
