We ended up staying in the grand suite room 605, La Romanee. The room is absolutely beautiful and pristinely clean. There were a couple of beetles that snuck in the room, but they left you alone and kept to themselves. It is to be expected with the sliding doors allowing easy access to the private bath outside. The view is breathtaking and the baths run 24/7, allowing you to take a dip whenever you see fit. Additionally, the staff is very sweet and accommodating. We were able to use Google Translate to make up for any language barrier we had, and all our needs were met and expectations exceeded. If I come back to Japan I would make time to stay here specifically again.

We had a great stay here, in room 301, which was the only room on our floor, giving us a lot of peace and privacy. Admittedly, they should maintain it a little bit better, there were some small things that should've been fixed, but they didn't ruin our mood. The atmosphere is beautiful, the bath on the balcony was a special experience, the room was spacious, the dinner was delicious, and the Western breakfast in the privacy of our own room was great. And the staff was very kind and helpful, and did their best to communicate in English.

It was a lovely hotel a few years back and the service back then was great.... But this time, it could be seen that the hotel is not well-kept. The view from the room was fabulous, however, it seems as though they are not keeping up with the maintenance. A few wooden panels on the balcony are loose... Air-Con was dusty.. and some corners of the room had cobwebs and yes.. there are spiders... Standard of service has dropped. Despite the food being delicious during dinner, it's a shame that there was not a choice of Japanese or Western breakfast in the morning... In addition... despite the hotel restaurant taking pride in using seasonal ingredients for dinner, the breakfast did not follow this trend at all.

This ryokan was slightly off the beaten path, but was a wonderful break. It's in the mountains so the view from our balcony was all trees, and we had a lovely private onsen. The facilities could use an update - you can tell they used to be top notch, but with the dampness it needs a refresh. The food was incredible - I can't say enough about how wonderful our meals were. It's a tiny place so there were only 8 tables seated, which made the a really beautiful private evening. Staff was friendly and helpful, fantastic Bordeaux wine list, and a mini cigar bar were nice touches. The public onsen is part of the hotel next door, but wash also really lovely.
