Overall this is a nice hotel if you get it for the right price. Rooms are no frills, breakfast is decent and the pool and atmosphere is a nice vibe. It’s conveniently located less than 10 minutes from the beach and less than 5 from the main strip. I docked a star because there were a few areas for improvement. In the morning, the staff flipped tables in the breakfast area painfully slow, and weren’t quick to serve coffee. I did notice other guests were not tipping much and I wondered if that was effecting service all around. Everyone should be dropping 20 pesos minimum for little things around the hotel! When we stored our bags at the end there was a strange exchange where we couldn’t get our bags because we had not paid an ‘environmental tax’. It was a dramatic response to a $20 fee. When we did pay in USD we got a roll of $1 pesos back, which was silly, so I tried to pay in pesos instead but they didn’t have change for that either… in the end I took the USD and pesos back and paid by card. Lastly, when we arrived our booking was no where to be found. Not uncommon when booking through a travel agency.. but a little annoying, as we had to move rooms on the 2nd day. Overall, I’m happy with my experience here.

Lovely place, of the 3 hotels we stayed in while in Mexico - this was the best! Really clean, nice and attentive staff, good drinks, good location. Rooms are basic and not enough pool beds in the sun. But overall the good outweighs the bad.

5 stars plus! This hotel is a must stay if you find yourself in Playa del Carmen. The hotel is fabulous; with an amazing pool. There are ample sun loungers available with and without shade. The rooms are perfect. They are a great size, bright and cleaned thoroughly every day. The shower is fantastic and the beds are very comfortable. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. Fabian, Roman, Raul, Andreas, Aldair and Beto were amazing. But a special shout out to Sam. Sam was exceptional; he went above and beyond for us during our stay. He is such a friendly guy and is a credit to this hotel. The breakfast was superb, with a huge variety to choose from. The food at the bar was very tasty with some fantastic food and cocktail special offers. The location is ideal, close enough to the main area where all the restaurants and bars are but not too close that the noise affects your stay. It’s less than a 5 minute walk to the beach which is spectacular for sunrise. We enjoyed our stay here so much we came back for our last night before flying home. The second room, although slightly smaller than our original, was still perfect. I cannot recommend this hotel enough, and certainly if I’m in Playa del Carmen again I know where I’ll be staying.

Clean safe hotel with apathetic staff that border on rude or just don’t care. Could easily be an amazing hotel with some simple small changes. Currently the HM Plya Del Carman is only clean safe hotel with pool, bar but don’t expect any support or service. Don’t currently recommend. There is an elevator, although it smells very bad. There are some rooms with balconies, but they face out towards the street. When we tried to check in, both people at the front desk had the attitude that they couldn’t care less about you or their jobs. When they finally decided to help us as we waited patiently, we asked if it was possible to check in 45 minutes early as we called called two days ago and were even told they may be able to have our room ready early and would make a note. We were promptly told there is never an early check-in. No problem, We politely asked if we could store our luggage as we were an early and both looked perplexed with our request. We said we had called the day before to confirm that we could store our luggage tell check in time and were assured they could. After looking like this was an uncommon event, they tag our luggage and put it in the corner. We twice called the front desk with issues and both times they said they would send someone right up, no show both times. Note, There are no ice machines nor ice buckets, so you have to call the front desk to get ice. The 1st time we did this, we waited and waited and forgot as we got distracted. 3 hours later we called again and was told someone would be right up. Half hour after that, we went down and learned that they have no ability to provide ice in the rooms??? The front desk walks you over to the bar (which is only open from 9am to 9pm, so heaven forbid you want ice outside of that time), and the bar gives you a cup of ice! Why didn’t front desk not say you have to go to the bar for a cup of ice. The bathroom is setup is unworkable. If you use the towel hanger, the hanging towel blocks the shower and toilet stall doors from closing or the handles to open them . 2nd the shower door is so close the floor so you can not open the shower door without the mat being moved and bunched up. Regardless you get water all over the floor whether you use the mat or not. Easy to move the towel hooks and shorten the door 1/2 inch. The cleaning staff scent the room and it is very strong and over powering! We proper open the room door and opened the window and it took about 2 hours to air out the room. I’m sure some like strong scents, but if we want aroma therapy, we will go to a spa. There is only one trashcan in the entire room and it’s in the bathroom, yet there are two sitting areas in the Jr. suite. I guess they expect you to get up and walk to the bathroom every time you need to throw away something or blow your nose and want to dispose of the tissue. How much does a small trash can cost? The end of the stay did it end any better, we asked if we could check out 10-15 minutes late as we were running late that morning and told not even a minute late or we would be charged another nights stay. Would we stay here again, MAYBE…. But we understand that any issues we have, we will have to go to the front desk in person to deal with them and hope someone actually cares to do something about the issue. Unfortunately, there are not many other options that offer a quite room, that is also clean & safe with-in walking distance to 5th Ave. Most other nice hotels are right on 5th ave, which is where all the restaurants and clubs are, good luck sleeping day or night, unless you are looking for that. The sad part, with some simple minor inexpensive changes and staff training the HB Plya Del Carman could be amazing, Sadly, as of Dec 14th 2023, is just clean and safe.
