The lobby smells intensely of fish as there is a fish restaurant, so if good luck if you're not a fish lover. The rooms are really small and awkward. The internet did not work in our room (it requires a name identification system that did not work). The heating system is not working during the night, so in January we were actually cold. The shower buttons are complicated and the water comes warm and cold in random moments. Calling the reception is not always possible. Overall rather disappointing for a Hilton hotel.

Our first... and probably last time at the Motto by Hilton Rotterdam. To enter the hotel, you have to go through the restaurant, which is quite strange on weekends as you have to navigate through a crowd of people smoking on the stairs. The reception barely acknowledges you, your status, and everything around. We felt like unwanted guests at a party. We managed to find the corridor and get to our room - a small success! :) The room was quite okay - relatively new, clean, and tidy with comfortable bed. Breakfast - a very limited selection, but important that it was:) The rules at breakfast - the list, vouchers, surcharges- will remain unclear to us until the end. Overall, it's a strange place, and we probably won't stay there again.

This is one of these micro hotels. Room has a bed and that is it. There is not enough space for a normal bathroom. No desk, no chair no normal wardrobe . My room was not properly ventilated. I could switch on the airco but it was too noisy to be able to sleep. Overall this is a comfortable place to stay after a drinking party but very uncomfortable for a normal use.

In a word…UNDERWHELMING. I had never stayed at a Motto property before, but assumed that it would be fine due to the Hilton name. Well I was wrong and won’t be staying at another Motto anytime soon. While the restaurant, Pesca, looks great (didn’t have the opportunity to try it), it doesn’t belong front and center in the hotel. The hotel uses the restaurant/bar services from Pesca, but it somehow isn’t affiliated with it. Restaurant customers coming in off the street take higher priority over you as a hotel guest. The bartender even told me that the restaurant has approval to shut the bar down if it interferes with their ability to run the restaurant; which leaves you as a hotel guest high and dry if you were looking for a drink. Motto needs to do a better job of vetting the restaurant that they subject their customers to as well as integrating it into the hotel’s offering. As for my room, the space was the size of a large master closet. There is no formal bathroom or desk in your room. They have a drop down shelf under the TV that you can utilize as a desk, but you have to sit on the edge of your bed to use it as there is no chair in the room. Their minimalist concept also includes the removal of tissues; I don’t recall a Kleenex being a luxury item. Bottom line…if you are a Hilton portfolio regular (Diamond myself), do not assume this hotel is like any of the other properties you have stayed at. I truly don’t see this brand helping the Hilton name.
