Palace Napoli

I do not often leave bad reviews, but I feel a duty to my fellow travelers to give everyone a heads-up about this place. THE NEIGHBORHOOD GOES SUPER DODGY AFTER DARK! We stayed here because our flight from Naples got canceled after 4 hours on the tarmac. In order to get reimbursed through my travel insurance from Amex, I needed to direct book through Amex Travel (which is a whole different debacle that you should avoid- they make it impossible to actually make a claim!) And so called and had an agent book the closest hotel to the airport that they could find that had three rooms. Bella (which should really be called BRUTTO) was the closest with 3 rooms. They had already cranked up their rates to $200/night because they could (maybe they are in league with the stooges at the airport that cause our flight to cancel...). On the way there, our taxi driver almost killed us repeatedly driving the wrong way down one way streets and as we sank deeper into Naples, the graffiti became more pronounced and the number of scary dudes hanging out in the streets multiplied. Psycho Taxi driver then takes a turn into an alley on 2 wheels and screeches to a halt in front of BRUTTO bella. He slings our luggage into the crackerbox waiting room where the guy on duty informs us that the elevator can only take 1 person at a time. So i go upstairs and open our room which has about 6 inches of space around the bed. It was so tight that we had to open the door to the hall and move our suitcase out if one of us needed to walk arouthe bed. My brother-in-law, still freaked out from the ride and the scary dudes loitering outside, checks the window/door and discovers that it won't lock! He and his girlfriend refuse to stay in the room. Luckily, my motherinlaws room had two beds and was actually nice (which is why I am giving it 2 stars) so they all decide to bunk up there. I take the key to the unsafe room down to the desk and the guy refuses to refund my money, insisting that the rooms are non-refundable. I leave the key on the desk and go back to the room. The next day, I see someone else from our flight leaving the room - he sold it again and still charged me! I disputed the charge with Amex but because Amex travel booked the room and agreed to the terms and conditions, Amex credit card billed me for it anyhow - the ultimate different department Charlie Foxtrot. So don't use Amex Travel or BRUTTO bella unless you want a taste of rhe foregoing.
