Residenza Castrense

I have mixed feelings about this place and will try to be as informative as possible while also being fair. Some aspects I loved.... the bathrooms were modern and clean, the staff was very helpful and friendly, the rooms are kept in very clean condition and the daily room cleanings were very good, they even give you some bottles of water every day put in the minfridge and the breakfast while not elaborate is enough to make anyone satisfied with coffee to order and other drinks, fruits, breads, meats, cereal, yogurt, and fresh baked pastries. There were also some detractions.... i have ecellent hearing and am easily woken so to me the building is very loud and you're gonna hear doors opening and closing, the elevator and any hallway conversations. Pro tip: if youre on the 5th floor ask for the side of the building opposit the breakfast room so you dont have to hear everyone eating and if youre on the forth do the same so you dont hear them above you. Also try to get rooms at the end of the hall to minimize the noise from the stairs/elevator. Street noise wasn't too bad but if that bothers you consider a high floor or an interior view room. The elevator also broke during my trip which since I generally prefer using the stairs didn't bother me but I'm sure would be a major issue for other people. The hotel also does NOT provide 24/7 concierge as mentioned on their website but they will leave details on how tovaccess your room is you arrive late. The only other thing that did not live up to expectations was the bed.... mine was on a pullout couch and not very comfortable. Be warned the pictures of the hotel show the nicest rooms with the nicest furniture, you can see my room in the pics and compare for yourself. This hotel's location isn't exactly convenient but compared to others closer to the train station it seemed to be more updated and in better condition than those of similar price making the extra walk worth it to me personally... my colleagues were not as happy with thier rooms in other hotels closer to the train station. The last thing I'll say is a rather unavoidable one when staying in Rome during tourist season... the price. I booked at a relatively reasonable - yet still too high IMO - rate but I also see this hotel upwards of $240, even over $300 per night and it is just not worth that amount nor should you pay that much with proper planning ahead. Ultimately, I stayed here on a work trip because this was the best combination of price, convenience to my work, and room quality. If I had to repeat the trip I'd stay here again especially if I could get one of the rooms pictured on thier website or just a nicer bed.

Very nice hotel with small but clean rooms with great service. The receptionist was very kind and let us keep our bags at the hotel after checkout to explore Rome. Good breakfast that is included! Above our expectations! Should be a 3 star hotel.
