We loved our experience at SET Hotel - the location is unbeatable, situated on a charming street just a stone’s throw away from the old town and the Christmas markets, the rooms were spacious, modern and bright, and the staff were kind and accommodating! Would definitely recommend staying here to anyone visiting Basel.

The good: short walk to a main shopping area with many restaurants, #3 Tram stop directly outside, set in a surprisingly charming and quiet neighbourhood, pet friendly, decent design choices. The bad: the check-in person was not entirely friendly, not unfriendly but as the first person we came into contact with it would have been nice to be greeted warmly, the rooms were overpriced, for one night, a family of four, 400 fr. PLUS parking 25 fr. for 24 hours, even though we were asked to return the key by 23 hours from our arrival...yes, (we know Switzerland is expensive, we live here and can think comparatively), the room had a kitchenette but there were no pots, pans, utensils, etc...except for coffee spoons, so we could not even boil an egg, the shower has a door but there is no catch for the lock, this made our teenage daughter uncomfortable, the room's air was extremely dry, not sure how the HVAC system works but it was a desert in the room. Overall, it was ok and suited our needs and checked enough boxes but we had the feeling of being in a very expensive hostel, not a boutique hotel.

This was our second stay at SET since its an unbeatable location and the food at Teufelshof across the street is just amazing. We love to come back here. Since I had to stay for an entire week to attend a conference, we booked a larger room with kitchen this time. However, it was a bit disappointing. We assumed that the kitchen would have everything included to actually use it but that was not the case. There were not dishtowels (we called to get one), no dish soap or sponge for hand washing (only tabs for the dishwasher, so we ran it with just 2 plates and 2 glasses and cups in there), and essentially we had two small glasses for juice, 4 cups for tea or coffee and 2 red wine glasses. That was it. Essentially, we had to run the dishwasher each day since the cabinets had mostly one set of each which was a bit too barebone for my taste. More glasses, more dishes, more of everything would have been great. There is also no way to cook since nothing is supplied, no oil, no salt, no pepper. If you want to cook, you would have to buy it and I guess just throw it away on your last day. I don't think that goes very well with the general theme there of being environmentally cautious since they give you free tickets for the tram which is super great. We still enjoyed our stay but would definitely just stick to a regular room next time since the added kitchen did not have any advantage with the minimalistic supplies provided. (the room had a washer though, which is good if you need it).

I arrived in Basel for a conference and stayed at the hotel for 3 nights as a single traveler. The location is obviously very good, close to the city center and the old city. The room was excellent and the bed was very comfortable. The coffee machine in the room was a nice surprise and when I asked for a few more capsules I got way more than I would have ever needed :) From the room there was a nice view to the street and despite previous reviews I read - the noise of the tram passing under the window did not disturb at all. The staff was welcoming, pleasant and helped with any question or request. The breakfast was large and rich and in a convenient time range. I have no doubt that on my next visit to Basel I will return to this excellent hotel!

Not worth the money, not a 4* hotel 1) Good location 2) Friendly staff 3) Basic continental breakfast (think bread, cheese, sausages but almost no fruit) in building across the road. Runs out of food quickly (10am on Sunday) and isn't restocked 4) large, clean rooms, but very, very noisy (both from inside the hotel and outside public transport) 5) unfortunate issues with the cleaning service
