Location wise this place is great, 2 mins walk from kings cross station. The rooms are basic and I had the misfortune of having a view of the busy construction site directly outside which starts work at 7:30am. This was not stated before booking and had i been told I would be awoken by heavy machinery at the crack of dawn I wouldn't have booked. Beware, this construction site is only at the very early stages so I'd imagine that for the next couple of years, the noise will be the same if not worse ! Staff we miserable and very uninterested. Breakfast is served at a different hotel around the corner, which again wasn't stated when booking. The food was nice, just a little surprised by the location. All in all a very strange stay at this hotel and I would not return.

Great little hotel. Had an excellent stay. I had a double room and found it spacious, clean, comfy and stylish (with a very cool bathroom). Reception were friendly and helpful, lounge area was great for hanging out. Proximity to the station is a big score if you’re heading in or out of KX/St P but also for travel into the city. Definitely would recommend it.

This is our second time staying at The California and it is better than what we remembered. The room had a fun adjustable floating bed. Service was always friendly, bar makes a nice Negroni and the breakfast is superb. The last morning we had to leave early for a train and the lady at reception (evening shift 7 Jan) organised the most thoughtful breakfast pack. She was amazing. Thank you for always making our stay memorable and easy.

I had an absolutely extraordinary experience at this hotel! The staff went above and beyond to make my partner's birthday unforgettable. They thoughtfully arranged our bedroom with petals, a delicious cake, a heartfelt card, prosecco, and even a love heart swan – truly remarkable attention to detail. The cherry on top was the balcony overlooking St. Pancras Clock, adding a touch of magic to our stay. The service was impeccable, and the ambiance was simply out of this world. We couldn't have asked for a more special celebration. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking an extraordinary and memorable experience!

This hotel is set in the perfect location literally on King’s Cross station doorstep, bars, restaurants etc.. the room smelt nice and clean for a basement room, could hear the subway below the building but not noisy enough to be annoying or keep you awake. The staff were super friendly and had smiles which always is a good sign of a nice environment in my opinion. Would stay again.
