Thon Hotel Tromsø

The location is amazing for visiting Tromso. Extremely walkable. That being said, that's all that's good about it and there are 20 other hotels. Our room for 2 was a bed that comfortably slept 2 people if comfortable includes nothing but a fitted sheet and one single-sized duvet for each of us. Total room size was a couple feet of walking space around 3 sides of the bed, and that's it. The bathroom was miniscule, but did have a heated floor. The staff was rude. On our last morning, we needed a cab to the airport and asked the front desk attendant if she could call one for us since we didn't have working phone numbers on our trip. She glanced up, pointed at a tablet and said that that was for ordering cabs. No, no it isn't. It's for ordering cabs if you have a working phone number. We didn't know that, so we didn't know we needed to respond to a confirmation text that we received two days later when we made it back to the U.S. We almost missed our flight because the lady at the front desk didn't listen and we stood out in the rain waiting for a cab that was not on the way. The front desk had been short with us the entire time, so idk what I was expecting. Anyhow, the cab debacle only occurred after breakfast, where a member of the wait staff treated us to a lovely conversation about how much Tromso sucks now and she wants to move away because it's been ruined over the last 20 years by expansion. Wow. Thanks. That makes me super happy I just wasted 3 days here. And, to be honest, she's kind of right. Tromso is full of construction, expansion into the fjord, an obviously glowing with bright lights tourist trap main strip, etc. All the things you can think of that would occur if there was no regulation in a town where the tourism demand had just skyrocketed. But I digress. I didn't need that from the hotel staff. Oh, and you should still visit. Just make sure you book something out on a reindeer farm or something. We stayed at 3 different hotels on our trip to Norway, including the Thon Hotel Bergen, which was much nicer in every way than the Thon Hotel Tromso. My wife and I have been referring to this hotel as the one mistake we made on our vacation.
