York Hotel

For what it is as a two star hotel it's actually really good. But it is definitely that, a two star hotel. The positives are that it is located in a great location which is the main draw. Super close to Taipei Main Station which gives you access to all the other areas of Taipei and further out very easily. It's also located in a complex that has heaps of food options for cheap and a 7-11/familymart on the corner to get cash out. As far as the rooms go they were very serviceable, I stayed in the basement and they were sizeable enough to fit me and my suitcase comfortably in the lower area during the day. The bedding is also comfortable and clean. Internet is fast. Other positives include the communal area having filtered refrigerated and boiling/warm water, as well as free coffee/tea and a fridge. The space itself was also designed well and is the most aesthetic and comfortable area of the entire hotel, it's a nice place to chill. Bathrooms are also mostly clean and tidy. The negatives in my opinion are mostly outweighed by the positives, but there are a few. To list the main concerns, the room is very temperature sensitive, on a 10 degree day it was quite cold and on a 20-25 degree day it was hot to sleep in, the aircon did help a little, but I can't imagine it would be great in summer when it's really hot. The rooms also had mosquitos in them, not heaps, but one or two which was annoying for sleeping more than anything else. The final gripe with the rooms is that the ventilation is kind of just a hole in the top of the door with a cover over it. This means you can hear all the noises from the hallway and other rooms so you have to be quiet and also ready to deal with a bit of light and noise when you sleep. For me it wasn't a big deal, I wore a sleep mask, but for light sleepers they might want to bring earbuds. Other than that the showers had a few mosquitoes and mould on the roof but they were clean otherwise. They provide you with a towel, toothbrush/toothpaste, shower gel/shampoo and filtered water/coffee/tea and fridge as mentioned above in the main area.
