We booked this last minute for two nights. We got one of the cabin like rooms. Everything is very old and outdated. It has the potential to be charming, I really liked that we had a kitchenette and the location is great. Close drive to downtown Banff, you can also get free bus pass during your stay and the bus stop to town is right across the street from here. I also like the assigned parking stall outside of the rooms so you have a guaranteed spot to park close by. We saw lots of elk and deer here, it was great. Unfortunately our room was not cleaned well. There was a ton of dust in the vents, stains on the carpet, some spots in the bathroom toilet from previous guests. Thankfully we had our own bedding as their comforters were very old and overused. Bed was also quite uncomfortable, mattress feels like it’s been there for decades. Kitchen ceiling light had bugs stuck in it. Would have liked to use the balcony (although it was also quite dirty) but we were unable to get the sliding door to unlatch to open it at all. Also, stove top only had 2 working elements out of the four. Everything from the walls, curtains to the furniture screams old and worn out. We used the pool, water slides are a great feature for kids. Outdoor hot tub jets weren’t working and not super hot but a nice feature. This location is fantastic, but the resort itself needs a lot of work and love to get better reviews. Renovations would go a long way to better the experience here. I can’t say I would come back until then.

My family had a great winter experience like the wood fire, it feels just like home with complete kitchen ware in Douglas Fir Resort. Pool slides are great. Hot outdoor pool is amazing. We probably come back next time.

We arrived and booked into our 3- bedroom chalet which was on the expensive side but we don’t get away often and decided to splurge. When parking, our assigned parking spot was taken by another guest because the vehicle beside them was taking up 2 spots. We then had to park in someone else’s stall. Room was very cramped, outdated, dirty and the heat was not working…in January. I picked up massive hairballs from the floor, food wrappers, and lots of cobwebs everywhere. The furniture was filthy and ripped. The walls were chipped and beaten. We could barely get our suitcase in the master bedroom as it was so tiny. We started the wood stove and turned up the heat only to get cold air from the vents. Maintenance was very helpful and tried to fix it as we huddled around the fire in our coats. We were eventually offered a couple small space heaters….we asked for a new room. We down graded to a 2 bedroom chalet which was cleaner and had more space. Still outdated but better. Ceiling light fixtures are full of bugs and lots of cobwebs throughout. This was very inconvenient and also wasted several hours of which we could have been enjoying ourselves. We were not offered anything to make up for this. The waterslides and hot tubs were nice however there is no pool to just swim in. The change rooms were filthy by 4:30(pool opens at 2). The floors covered in hair and debris. We were assured that they get cleaned every morning at 8…they definitely need cleaned throughout the day. We would not recommend this hotel or stay here again. Very overpriced and outdated.

Loved the full kitchen and wood fireplace. Very well equipped. Friendly staff. Just wish the closed parts of the hotel would someday open up (a store, sauna, laundry and extra pool). The signs say "closed due to COVID" and it was confusing to find which pool was open. The older extra pool would be a nice quiet place to swim laps, if it was open). Kids loved the indoor playzone. Overall we found this hotel to be great value.

Although I'm not handing out a perfect score, I assure you that we had a good stay. The rooms are a little run down, yes, but if you're looking for a cabin getaway that feels rustic and is at the edge of town ( not a busy street) this one is pretty good. I suppose for the space you get, the prices aren't too bad. I'm sure we could find nicer and cheaper accommodations..... but I'll be back.
