Hilton Düsseldorf

Staff at reception overall friendly. No bell staff though. Rooms are somewhat dated, especially the (tiny) bathrooms. Bathtub, with shower curtain, sink and toilet, all in just 36 sq ft or so. Bathroom door is extremely narrow and when I stand up in the bathtub, my head touches the ceiling, definitely not fit for tall folks. Rest of the room decor is fine, just a lack of USB or power outlets at the right side of the bed. Automatic minibar in-room with a warning sticker that all items are automatically charged, but no price list to be found, neither on paper or online. Small area for personal items. Good single serve Lavazza coffee machine and a seperate water kettle. Complimentary still and sparkling water. TV's are small (32") and somewhat outdated. but they suffice. Not a lot of channels though, most non-german channels that were pre-programmed just had a "no signal" or "signal error" message. HDMI input available, so we just plugged in the laptop and Netflixed. The major issue with the room though, which made me give it just two stars, is the fact that the AC doesn't work. It just recirculates air, but doesn't cool at all. That made for a very hot and stuffy night with a room about 22 to 23C (outside temperature about 13C). After a room switch, we were able to open the window, but that doesn't do a lot and generates loads of traffic noise. The aircon still didn't cool. So not a lot of sleep, woke up soaked. As both rooms had the same issue, I suspect the issue to be present for the whole hotel. Maybe some bean counter decided to cut power to the condensers during winter season to save some money? Anoither disappointment came at breakfast: no-one to greet and seat guests, you just had to fend for yourself and conquer a table. The big disappointment though was the fact that there were no made to order omelettes. I asked two different staff members and even walked over to reception, but the kitchen staff didn't feel like it today because they were busy. Come on folks, I've seen hotels with at least double the amount of people at breakfast have an egg station manned by just one person. You can't just stop serving something that is an integral part of your brand standard just because "it's busy". I really looked forward to my omelette and you let me down here. So egg wise, breakfast just had (powdered) scrambled eggs, pre-made heated powdered omelettes (the ones you find at a US Hampton Inn), as well as boiled eggs and a few very, very charred sunny-side up eggs. Basics folks, basics, those burned eggs should have been tossed, not put out for customers to eat! The 2 coffeemachines had lines about 5 to 7 deep, and took ages. The third machine was out of order. Got into breakfast just prior to 10 and took over 15 minutes to get seated with coffee, leaving just 15 minutes for the actual breakfast. Orange juice was not fresh and truly one of the worst pre-packaged juices I ever tasted. Bitter, tangy, artificial. The hotel has ample parking, with two garages, a lot in front and a lot at the back of the hotel, but everything is gated and they charge EUR 3 an hour or EUR 25 a day. As this is an commercial area outside of town, that feels a bit over the top. The effect is that a lot of guests use free street parking down the street, which quikly fills up. I'd rather see a slighly higher room rate and complimentary parking at the hotel, whicjh would also free up the parking spots further down the street And my guess is that the tenants in neighbouring properties, mostly offices, will appreciate not having hotel guests fill up the scarce free street parking. We didn't get a chance to visit the executive lounge during service hours (6pm till 9pm), so I can't say anything about that. Overall, a dissatisfying stay because of the non-working aircon and dressed down breakfast.

I usually associate the Hilton brand with top-notch service and comfort. However, our stay at Hilton Dusseldorf left much to be desired. First, we were given the wrong rooms, which was just the start of our troubles. We were then moved to a room right next to a noisy elevator, which was far from peaceful. Two nights in, we were shifted again to yet another room. The constant shuffling was tiresome and certainly not something I'd expect from a reputed establishment like Hilton. To make matters worse, there was a power outage during our stay, which affected our entire experience. Because of this, we had to check out a day earlier than planned. The manager on duty, recognizing our troubles, kindly offered a 50% discount on our stay. However, when we checked our credit card statement, lo and behold, the full amount was charged with no concessions for the early check-out or the promised discount. A clear oversight, but a significant one nonetheless. It's disheartening to see such a well-known brand falter in both service and billing. I genuinely hope others have a better experience than we did. Until this issue is resolved, I'll be thinking twice before booking with Hilton Dusseldorf again.
