Hotel Il Papavero

Do not stay here. The managers/owners are completely unreasonable and were nothing but rude the entire time. On arrival they made us pay 50 euros extra for air conditioning despite us being in an Italian heat wave (reviews prove that they do the same with the heater in the winter). The rooms we booked had an air conditioning unit attached but once we had paid they gave us the remote for it. Furthermore, the wifi barely works half the time so expect to use your mobile data. The hot water is also extremely hit or miss (works about 25% of the time and even still it’s barely warm). One day we were asleep and the manager barged into our room despite us having a do not disturb sign on the door and insisted she had to clean our bathroom because it had been too long since they had (we’d only been staying here for about 24 hours). When we brought this up with her and how inappropriate it is she blamed it on us and said that because we were young they had to check (a simple check in the bathroom to see it was clean would’ve been a better approach instead of waking us all up). They also blamed us for sleeping in until 12pm that day and said that because they woke up at 7am we shouldn’t be still sleeping when we were. On our last night in Rome I was unfortunate enough to break my collarbone, this meant that we were all stuck in the hospital until around our check in time trying to sort it out before our check out and train. When we got back they were told what had happened and we apologised for the inconvenience but still, they were extremely rude and unsympathetic for what had happened. When finally checking out, we sent two of us to an ATM to pull money out to pay the city tax fee while two of us waited at the accomodation, immediately they threatened to call the police and said we weren’t going to pay it when we clearly had two of us waiting there while the others left. Again, they were extremely rude and immature with us, blaming us being “young”. We’ve never had any problems in any other accomodation we’ve stayed in on our trip but here was something else. I recommend staying far away from here as although it’s cheap, the place is falling apart and the management is awful and seen in many other reviews on google where people have had similar problems, it’s clear the owners just deflect everything and lie in their responses (pro tip: instead of deflecting all the issues with your place, take responsibility and improve on the things people write about).

The hotel has like a really good and kind staff, even if we booked for 3 persons they added very quickly a 4th one bed ❤️.. the street is very noisy, but there are very tasty and affordables restaurants around the hotel.. very well placed hotel a lot of transports (bus/taxis)
