HOTEL MYSTAYS Nishi Shinjuku

I'm giving it a one star rating for the following reasons: 1. The hotel is located quite far from shinjuku station. You can walk to the station via the underground pass or on the street level. If you are carrying your luggage, please walk on the street because there are no elevators leading up to the street level at some of these exits. 15 mins walk to Shinjuku train station. 2. Hotel is located next to a cemetery so your breakfast view and potentially room view could be of that cemetery. Peaceful at best. A playground is located next to the cemetery. I didn't see any kids in it but lots of smokers hanging around it all the time. 3. The breakfast was so dismal you should give it a miss. If you can avoid paying for it, please do. You are better off buying food from the 7-11 a street away. The serving covers are cracked and the coffee machine needed maintenance. Even the morning tea and juice is dispensed from a coca cola soda machine. In fact, it didn't dispense tea on the first try, and they had to service the machine. All the food was frozen stuff which they barely warmed up for service. Bread was a dinner roll. Worse than a 2 star motel in USA. 4. The room was so tight we had to open the luggage on the table. Once luggage was closed and pressed against the wall, it was a single file path to the bathroom. 5. The bathroom is so narrow. You can't use the sink without hitting the wall behind you. The floor was very slippery and the tub was high. Very dangerous for older people. Not suitable at all for mobility challenged people. The only plus points for this hotel are: 1. The duvet covers and bedding were very new and good condition. 2. There was a power outlet and USB charging port by each bed. 3. The bed was huge for a twin sharing 4. The facial cleanser, toner and moisturizer were provided for free at the lobby. 5. The service staff at the front desk were very polite and helpful. Positive attitude. I am taking a star off service for the lackluster attitude at breakfast. They shouldn't have to maintain their machines during peak hour use. Overall I would not recommend this place to anyone. The price was ridiculous too. More than 300SGD a night. A hard no.

Enjoyed a 2 night stay while visiting Tokyo. As with many hotels in the city, the room was compact and required some minor rearranging of furniture to fit my open suitcase below the desk The room was very modern, clean and the AC worked well, which was appreciated in a city that can get hot. Lights for the entire room can be controlled from the switch next to the bed. I found the bed to be comfortable, perhaps a little on the soft side, but the pillows were the most comfortable of any hotel I have stayed in Japan! The bathroom was a little old school, but perfectly clean and functional. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and were happy to assist with changing a note for some 100 yen coins so that I could use the shared laundry facilities (there are 2 washing machines and 2 dryers). The location was ideal within walking distance to many restaurants (I would recommend Ichiran ramen for solo diners) and I counted 3 convenience stores within 2 minutes from the hotel.
