We just returned home from London and our decision to stay at this hotel was rewarding ! Very polite staff, very clean with wonderful friendly maids always smiling . Fantastic room and bathroom of a very good size for London. Breakfast area was cozy and nice . Yes, there are steps and no elevator - but if you read the descriptions online - you know ! We loved it as it is in a prime location close to almost everything ( British museum just around the corner ) and the area near by is full of dinning options ! If They could improve something - it would be the option of something hot at the breakfast buffet (eggs-bacon - pies ) since it is an SLH Hotel ! Very efficient staff - they called us after checking out to inform us we forgot something and they arranged shipment to us . We will definitely stay there again for our next visit to London ! Thank you !

The great: The location is really convenient. A few blocks away from Goodge Street tube stop on the Northern Line which is great for tourists looking to see the city. A short walk from the West End, Soho, and Camden. The good: The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, if not a bit green (but I have confidence they’ll do well in their careers!) The hotel is well decorated inside and out. We found the bed to be quite comfortable, especially the linens. Breakfast is pretty good for a continental breakfast and the dining room is a great place to start the day! The not as good: The hotel is old. Yes, I knew that before I booked (I read the reviews too) and honestly it wasn’t a huge deal after all of the positive aspects of the hotel, but do be aware of the quirks. The floors creak, the hallways are narrow and there are no elevators, there are “old house sounds” of water trickling and you may hear your neighbors. None of these things were deal breakers, but some people may prefer the predictability of a more modern hotel. Also, the bar was not staffed when we visited and a lady came from the front desk and made us probably the worst Aperol spritzer I’ve ever had (she did try.) Overall would stay again. We stayed in other hotels on our UK trip and they weren’t as memorable as the Academy.

*Stayed early October 2023 I'd not recommend this hotel to anyone with heavy luggage, strollers, young kids or any mobility issues. Lots of narrow, steep steps. Breakfast served in the basement and it's very hard to get down there, no rails to hold on! Breakfast buffet is very poor and even tho I paid for a room with breakfast (which was like $20/night more) I still had to pay extra for scrambled eggs and sausages. So Bazaar. My room was big enough (Premium or deluxe I don't remember). A/C needs some love as it's falling apart. Beautiful garden, library and lounge. Great location. Overall it is an OK hotel, not 5* not a "small luxury hotel".

We had a three night stay in mid-August 2023. My husband felt that for the location and the quality of the room, the price was good. You can walk into London town, close to good train stations, close to British museum and bus routes. We found the staff to be friendly and accommodating, and when we had an issue, it was dealt with immediately and complimentary bottle of wine given for any inconvenience. The continental breakfast was plentiful and kept us going all day. You can pay for a cooked breakfast which looked nice, but the breakfast laid out had fruit salad, dried fruits and sunflower seeds, prunes and hard boiled eggs, juices, lots of different bread and pastries, cereals, toast, jams and marmalades, meats and cheeses - and you can eat as much as you need. Staff will bring you tea and coffee as needed. We tended to get up early and were out all day, so our rooms were always clean and tidy when we returned. The garden and garden bar looked nice but did not seem open when we were there, but we would not have used them. I am sure they would have been opened if so desired? The room was a good temperature with the air conditioning and the bed was very comfy. We were on the top floor - and this is a victorian townhouse - so there was a fair few stairs. However, this meant a good little workout twice a day!! (Obviously, this would be an issue for others, so good to be aware of ). Overall, we were very happy with the standard of service, care, and quality and had a great time!
