We enjoyed the location. Short walk to anything in the old city and the harbor. The place was quite worn and even dirty in most public spaces but parking was cheap and close in the public garage across the street. The room lacked AC, and though it was cool, our room was west windowed and heated up uncomfortably. The fan provided did little to cool it down, even through the night with the window wide open so rest was a bit uncomfortable ... Granted we like it unusually cool when we sleep.

An iconic hotel in a heart of the old town. It was build in 1917, it feels like Ernest Hemingway will just step in during his visit to Monterey. The hotel is old, not fancy, but very charming. No AC in the old building, it’s not renovated and walls are really thin. A lot of the noise from the street during the night. I couldn’t sleep without earplugs. Location is great, a lot of restaurants, bars, breakfast places, bakeries and coffee places. It is in a very short walking distance to a wharf. I loved this place and would definitely stay here, but, honestly, cannot recommend it:)

If you want to sleep, this is not your place. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything in the adjacent rooms. Also, if someone in another room showers, you can hear the water running through the pipes. The gym is literally 3 machines. No free weights. My Cable TV did not work, and the maintenance person was not in. The saving grace is that the location is great, otherwise I would not recommend this hotel.

The hotel is broadly fine. The biggest issue I had was that even with the windows firmly shut it was still incredibly noisy outside. Didn't get much sleep with the people and the gargabe lorries. I appreciate they can't do much about the outside noise but the windows should be better insulated so stop the noise coming in. The decor is quite outdated. Also looks a bit derelict from the front. Didn't even realise the place was open. The staff were friendly and the grab and go breakfast was much appreciated.
