I recently had the unique experience of visiting before booking a hotel nestled in a rather eerie location. The property itself had its charm, but getting there was an adventure of its own. The steep slope leading downward to the rooms was a daunting 0.8 km, and unfortunately, my car couldn't conquer the incline. Navigating this slope became a test of both patience and creativity. Resorting to placing stones under the brakes to prevent the car from sliding down added an unexpected twist to my arrival. The lack of assistance from the hotel staff in this uphill battle was disappointing. Upon finally reaching the rooms, the ambiance took an unsettling turn. The interior had a creepy aura, and it seemed as if time had forgotten these spaces. The rooms appeared somewhat neglected and lacked the care and attention one would expect. In light of these conditions, the hotel's location might be appealing to those seeking a truly unique, offbeat getaway. However, for the average traveler looking for both comfort and convenience, this might not be the ideal choice. A word of caution to future guests: be prepared for a memorable journey, not just within the hotel but also on the way there, and brace yourself for an eerie atmosphere within the rooms.

It was a marvelous stay at The British Resort. No wonder this resort has maintained its reputation over so many years in providing a nice cozy and peaceful stay in the forest area of Shimla City. A beautiful, old and grand property. One feels a part of history. Staff is very polite and courteous. Go the extra mile to please the guests . Food is delicious. Highly recommend

We had high expectations coming to the British Resort given the website had promised so much in the way of an experience of British life from 1893. When we arrive, we immediately notice the half finished 3 storey modern construction project completely unfitting with this hotel. After some searching, we find the hotel manager who quickly informs us he has been in the job 3 days and that we are the only guests staying here. Great, more of the place for ourselves we think. Our room was advertised as a 2 bed cottage and immediately find there is only 1 bed - the other is a 5 ft sofa bed that is harder than a stone floor. The staff scramble to find some sheets (but no duvet or pillow) and we are left to erect the sofa bed on our own. The room has a few sheets of toilet paper, good thing we had some in the suitcase. When we arrive back later that evening we find out that the hot water is not working. We try to enquire about the property’s promised facilities and activities: a leather library bar filled with old English pipes, cigars, and a wine cellar; tea lounge with afternoon tea served every day; a nearby golf course; a pool table mentioned in many reviews. The golf course is not open to civilians and the rest the staff seem to be unfamiliar with. We must be clear that minimal blame goes to the hotel manager. The hotel reminds us of the British TV show Faulty Towers where the hotel manager finds themselves in the deep end running a dysfunctional hotel. This place has much potential but they need to improve the guest experience and deliver on promises.

The staff was warm and welcoming, ensuring our every need was met. Delicious local cuisine at the on-site restaurant added to the overall delightful experience. Cleanliness, comfort, and a prime location made our shimla trip unforgettable. Highly recommend this gem for a memorable stay!"
