Resort Hotel Alex

Nice classic style hotel in the centre of Zermatt. Good food, service and atmosphere. A little far away from the slopes though. When you finish the skiing at the end of the day its a bit chaotic to get to the hotel. There a taxis and buses but with so many people and lines the quickest way to the hotel is walking for 15 minutes.

Zermatt is my favorite place in Switzerland as is Hotel Alex that made our stay memorable and one of a kind. We happen to have one of the best room with a view and showing the tip of the Matterhorn. We have seen the magical transformation of Matterhorn as it got illuminated as sun slowly rises (all while viewing at our room’s terrace and the breakfast room). The view is spectacular and truly left a lasting impression during our 2 nights stay. The breakfast room allows for that viewing through its floor to ceiling glass window and the glass roof! I can’t even begin where to start praising this hotel as everything we experienced is exceptionally good AND unique. This place is a gem in Zermatt; unusually different in vibes, decor and overall orientation BUT it is what makes it specially charming and appealing! The restaurant located at the basement is spacious and has access to patio which allows for outdoor seating. The bar located near the lobby offers various selection of cocktails and drinks! The room is spacious with bedroom and living room in one. The bathroom is big with jacuzzi and sauna room. The room speaks of everything that is traditional and IMO classic. The furnishings are made of hard wood and the shower/sauna bench are made of marble: the toilet seat and cover are the heaviest I had the experience of sitting and lifting. The tiles inside the bathroom has a rustic appeal and is clean despite! Stepping out the terrace and looking over the beautiful chalet style houses adorned with beautiful flowers is my favorite thing to do, not to mention the peak of The Matterhorn ever so slightly peeking over the clouds and suddenly showing cloudless is such a sight to behold. The place is conveniently located approximately 4 to 5 minutes walk from the train station; few steps from Zermatt main street and good 10-15 minutes walk to the gondola station to reach Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. There’s a shuttle that can take you to that station but you have to take note of schedule and stops (we didn’t have time to wait so we opted to walk). Some minor inconvenience comes with the style of the hotel BUT it does not affect my overall impression. (tiny and only one elevator but has the most beautiful elevator door I’ve seen thus far — made of stained glass AND it feels like a maze searching for the restroom from where we were in the restaurant basement). But you will see some beautiful decor while on the way with large amethyst stone extraction. If I will be back in Zermatt this will surely be my first choice. The highest recommendation I can give, hands down!
