Sherbrooke Castle Hotel

We had a very excellent stay here. The room was amazing, we had a lovely suite in the castle with a sitting area in a turret. The staff were friendly and attentive. Both the dinner and the breakfast were very good, well prepared, and well served. I would 100% stay here again.

Had an overnight at the hotel, a bed and breakfast and an evening meal. When I booked I specifically asked for a good view of the city, a roll top bath and 4 poster bed (as per picture on the website) the person taking the booking said you want the tower suite I said that's fine (the most expensive room they have). Turned up to check in got the key and was sent upstairs (3 flights of stairs) room was ok just ok a bit tired however no 4-poster bed and the room was very cold also wifi non-existent/poor. What I did notice was the suite had 4/5 standalone electric heaters in addition to the central heating. I called reception but no one answered so I popped down in person and explained the situation and was offered another suite lower down with no roll-top bath, no view and no 4-poster bed!!!! Was told that the central heating was working and the electric heaters are because the room is big (this was lie). IMO they knew and sold a room where that heating wasn’t working. I spoke to the receptionist (guy) who had an attitude and shrugged his shoulders. We went to the bar for a few drinks, the bar like most of the hotels is old, dirty and tired but the few drinks were nice myself and my wife were drinking cocktails. Only to be joined by the manager (nice guy thinking his name was William) who said he was concerned about the temperature of the room and would like to move to the room I was shown earlier. I said no as we booked that room for a reason. He said he would take £30 off the price of our stay. I agreed. We had brought nighttime clothes to get changes into for dinner as we would normally do, but didn’t bother because after seeing the other guests it was a jeans and t-shirt kind of place. Evening meal:- bruschetta was a piece of bread toasted in a toaster and overdone at that and chopped tomatoes that my wife couldn’t cut through. Someone at another table had the same issue. I had soup for the day which was nice. The main meal was ok but not like the pictures advertised on the website. Deseret:- cranachan which was never a cranachan it was basically raspberries and cream. No whiskey or oats. The bed was decent but the TV in the bedroom is very low down to watch from the bed. Breakfast:- it’s in the same place as an evening meal. We ordered a Scottish breakfast and a vegetarian breakfast. It’s £21 per person for this. It should come with beans but they failed to arrive when I asked about them he said we don’t have any again this should be advised at the time of ordering. The croissants are the smallest I have ever seen. For the price of the breakfast compared to other Glasgow hotels it’s ovepriced for presentation and quality (also looked like everything was deep fried including the potato scone). Staff:- apart from the manager William all the staff we came across looked dirty (nails dirty, shoes dirty, unkept appearance and shouldn’t be working in the service industry). In summary myself and my wife scored the hotel 4 out of 10 for our stay. A couple of caveats we have stay at many hotels and are very blessed to have stay at some nice hotels this falls well below our standards, I do understand peoples standards are different but staff cleanliness, getting what you have paid for, heating in your room and acceptable food when you are paying for it is a minimum standard regardless of “standard”. I would book this again you can get a much better hotel in Glasgow for the money you would pay for this hotel.
