Please note that there are certain eligibility criteria in order to claim a refund. While booking the second train, the passenger needs to link the PNR of the first train. If they miss the second train because of the delay in the first train, they can apply for a full refund from the Indian Railways.

Kindly note these few points in order to claim the refund:

  • Terminating station of the main journey should match the connecting train's originating station.
  • Passenger details such as name, age, etc. should be the same in both PNRs. So be careful while booking.
  • Difference between the main journey and the connecting journey should not be more than five days.
To claim the refund of an e-ticket, travelers are required to surrender the ticket by filing the TDR within three hours of the actual arrival time of the first train. The refund office i.e., Indian Zonal Office will take the final decision of granting a refund. Passengers should mention 'missing the connecting train because of the late running of the main train' for claiming a full refund.

Please note that the e-ticket upgrade is possible only by visiting the nearest railway station. Here are some points to consider while using IRCTC auto upgradation scheme:

  • Upgradation is automatically done by PRS (Passenger Reservation System) at the time of preparation of the chart. The ticket examiners have no authority to upgrade any passenger under this scheme on the train.
  • Only waitlisted passengers are provided with confirmed seats under this scheme. The remaining vacant berths are transferred for booking on the current counters as per the existing practice. Thus, if there is no waiting list on a train, no upgrade will take place.
  • If a passenger, who has been upgraded, cancels his/her ticket, cancellation charges of the original class are payable.
  • The original PNR of upgraded passengers remains unchanged and all information from PRS is provided when an inquiry is made with the original PNR.
  • All passengers in one PNR (maximum six) are upgraded together. None of them are upgraded in case of the non-availability of enough berths for upgradation.
