The official name of Srinagar Airport is Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport (IATA: SXR). It is the primary international gateway to the city, located in Badgam, about 10 km from the city centre.

Srinagar Airport underwent significant changes over the years, including runway extension, new terminal construction, aero bridges, and the status of an international airport in 2005. It has two terminals - one for domestic flight operations and the other for chartered operations, which is used as a Hajj terminal during the pilgrimage.

The airport operates domestic flight services to Mumbai, Delhi, Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, and Bangalore, and international flights to cities such as Jeddah and Dubai. Shalimar Bagh 

Jehangir ordered the construction of the Shalimar Bagh in the early 17th century and dedicated this beautiful garden to his queen Nur Jahan. The garden has three terraces. The outer part was for common people, known as ‘Diwan-i-Aam’, while the central portion was for the king’s court, known as ‘Diwan-i-Khas.’ The last terrace was private for women.

Wular Lake

Shankaracharya Temple

Shankaracharya Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. You will have to climb 243 stairs to reach the temple that offers visitors a panoramic view of the city. During the famous amarnath Yatra, many devotees visit this ancient temple. Shankaracharya Temple is open for devotees till 8:00 pm, but parking can be accessed only till 5:00 pm.

Nishat Bagh 

Srinagar is known for its picturesque Mughal gardens that have been around for a long time. Nishat Bagh is one such garden that follows the Persian terrace garden architecture. Located around 12 km from Siliguri, Bagdogra Airport (IATA: IXB) is an important transit point, serving a vast part of North Bengal and Sikkim. Frequent helicopter flights operate from this airport to Gangtok.  

In 2002, the then government gave this airport a limited international airport status. The airport has one domestic terminal connecting Delhi, Guwahati, Kolkata, and other cities to Bagdogra; the other terminal serves international flights to Bhutan and Bangkok.
