Hotel Giorgione

So, let's start with the good. Apart from one or two grumpy staff, the service is exceptional. Friendly, lovely and helpful. It's the sort of service I would expect from a 4 or 5 star place. It is also in an amazing location just out of reach of the throngs of tourists. It also has a small, but nice swimming pool in the garden. Housekeeping - no complaints. Room meticulously cleaned. Rooms are dark for sleeping and incredibly quiet. I'm afraid it stops there. This hotel would have been 4 stars 20 years ago. Today, it is an utter disappointment. The beds haven't been changed in 20 years and we had two singles pushed together. Not zipped together - not king singles - two small single beds pushed together. In this day and age and at €200 a night plus city taxes, they can afford to buy some mattress toppers so you don't have an uncomfortable crack down the middle of the bed. While I'm on the subject, the pillows. Dear God, just buy some new ones from this century. Flat and uncomfortable. We ended up with 5 pillows for the two of us, all flat. All cardboard like. Impossible to get comfortable on. Impossible to get a good night's sleep. The shower... I have added the picture in case the hotel refuted this in a response. It is so small, it is only just twice the length of that deodorant can. It's a disgrace. Water pressure was good. Good luck washing yourself in it. Check in was exactly at 2 (not a minute earlier) and check out at 11, not a minute later! We asked for a late checkout and the sentence didn't leave our mouths in full before we were sternly told no. I'm OK with them sticking to times when they have to because rooms aren't ready etc, but, as always, it is how the message is delivered The air conditioning, (to be clear we did not raise this with them to fix - so our fault) was frosty. The thermostat didn't work in our room, and they are controlled by a panel on the wall in the room lobby rather than a remote control, so you have to get up in the middle of the night to adjust it. Finally. Dear lord the cheap and nasty breakfast. A decent range of food, but mostly awful. The cheapest nastiest breakfast we have ever had anywhere. Put less things on, but make it better quality. The cheapest quality of everything. I consider the essentials of a hotel to be a comfortable bed and somewhere to wash myself. This hotel fails on both fronts really. I've stayed at motels that are more comfortable. At this price, I would recommend you stay somewhere else. It is a tired old hotel resting on its laurels because it is in Venice. It clearly is stuck in the 1980s. I am unclear why anyone would give this more than a 2 star rating - and it definitely isn't a 4 star hotel - regardless of how you measure it. One last thing - it was hard to not notice that all of the customer service/front of house staff were white.... All the back of house staff were not (but all spoke perfect Italian and English)

Although we had a very nice room, we had chosen a Garden Room which opened from the outside pool area. We were bitten repeatedly by mosquitoes that had come inside upon entering. We had a lovely table reserved for us outside our room. On a positive note, the room was very spacious (2 kings) and clean. The 2 bathrooms were unexpected and so nice. The AC/heat worked very well. The beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was very good with a large selection of food and drinks. Many different sitting areas for lounging. Hotel service excellent.
