Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, or the Agartala Airport (IATA code IXA), is the international airport of Agartala city. It is located 12 km southwest of the city. The airport has only one terminal and operates both arriving and departing flights. Many prominent airlines like IndiGo, AirAsia, Air India, and SpiceJet operate regularly out of this airport. In 2017, to meet the growing traffic at the airport, the Airports Authority of India undertook the work of constructing a new integrated terminal. With modern infrastructure and a handling capacity of 3 million passengers annually, the new integrated terminal facility will be a landmark for the state of Tripura.
