Hotel Santa Marina

This was the worst stay my entire trip in Italy. The people were rude and the hotel was dirty! The worst part was there were bugs in my bed! We did a late check-in and I did not get in bed until about 12pm/24.00. There were 2 separate rooms and I stayed in the smaller room with 1 twin. I removed the top blanket to get under the sheets there are 2 bugs in the sheets. 1 mosquito and another bug I do not recognize (pictures attached). I threw the bugs down the toilet and continued to go through each layer on the bed and ended up finding 5 of these bugs in my bed. I then lifted up my mattress and there was 1 more! I immediately went to the front desk to inform them of this - and the only option they offered to me was to wake up my entire family, pack up and move to another room. I was not going to do that as that would be inconsiderate to my family who like myself had been traveling all day and we were only staying for 1 night, checkout being at 12, but we had places to be so we checked out at 9am. The person at the front desk (during the night) said that I could talk to management in the morning about being compensated for this issue & I ended up sleeping on the floor. Upon waking up though I saw a Cot right at the bottom of our steps. Why was I never offered this as a secondary option!?!? Not only that the breakfast in the morning that you pay 15€ for is not worth it. The food, coffee and pastries were horrible and the servers were very rude. There was only 1 employee with a smile on her face - everyone else scowls, slow service and notachalontness. They did not explain that there was food you could order from the kitchen unless you spoke Italian, but yet they could understand and speak back to you when you asked them how the other table next to me got pancakes and or eggs. After our breakfast when we went to check out the 2 ladies at the front desk basically told me that they were not going to do anything about the bugs as they have them all over Venice. They would not compensate as they offered to move us, that’s that and nothing more. They laughed and acted like they didn’t understand why I wasn’t going to move my whole family at 1am-2am - So all in all we paid for everything including the bugs, hotel room, city tax & breakfast equaling around 500€ for 1 night. The previous reviews of over a year ago are definitely NOT correct. I stayed here due to the good reviews and high ratings but they are no longer true. There are plenty of other places that are nicer to stay in Venice for a cheaper or similar price. This should be lowered to a 1 star hotel for multiple reasons.

Great experience at this hotel. Had two rooms for family vacation. Decent bed sizes good AC..and fantastic location. Breakfast was good. Staff at check in and throughout our stay was very helpful. Would stay here again.
