About Amritsar

Amritsar is the second-largest city in the state of Punjab. It is situated in the region of Majha, which is a central hub for culture, transportation, and business. In about 1574 A.D., Sri Guru Ram Das Ji, the fourth Sikh Guru, founded the city of Amritsar. Before the town was built, the area had many lakes and thick forests. To establish the city, Guru Ji invited 52 merchants from nearby places, like Patti and Kasur, to arrive and set up their businesses. Sikhism is the primary religion of Amritsar, although the city is home to a multi-religious society in which people of various castes, societies, belief systems, and religions coexist.
