About Patna Airport

Jay Prakash Narayan Airport or the Patna Airport is the ninth-busiest airport in the country. It was named after Jay Parkash Nayaran as a tribute to the valiant freedom fighter. As the airport has a single runway, it currently operates as a restricted international airport. It is primarily used as a customs airport. In recent years, domestic traffic has increased rapidly, and now the annual passenger traffic handled by the airport is around 3 million. Currently, departure and arrival areas are located within the same terminal. To accommodate growing passenger traffic, the airport was recently expanded, and further expansion plans are underway to increase the overall capacity. The Airports Authority of India plans to build a new terminal with the necessary amenities, including aerobridges, a parking area, and VIP lounges. The proposed new terminal will handle annual passenger traffic of around 10 million. Plans to develop a new civil enclave for cargo flights around 20 km from the city are also under consideration. Though the pandemic disrupted the construction schedule, airport authorities believe it will be completed by December 2023.
